奈良県川上村と吉野林業

500年の歴史を持つ吉野林業発祥の地、奈良県川上村。

川上村の吉野林業では独自の育成方法によって、100年を超える長い年月をかけて、人の手で｢撫育｣と言われるほどに大切に木を育てます。

Kawakami in Nara prefecture is where Yoshino forestry was born around 500 years ago.

Yoshino forestry in Kawakami has embraced the careful nurturing of trees by human hands, also known as ”buiku“(tending with love), where each tree is grown for over 100 years using unique silvicultural techniques.

吉野材を産出する吉野林業地帯の中で、吉野川上流に位置する川上村、東吉野村、黒滝村が杉･桧優良材の中核産地となっています。

Within the Yoshino forestry area where Yoshino timber is produced, the core production areas for premium cedar and cypress wood encompass the villages of Kawakami, Higashi-yoshino, and kurotaki which are located upstream from the Yoshino River.

奈良県川上村は、吉野川･紀の川源流に位置する山間の村。総面積の95%が山林です。緑を育みながら、水の恵みを下流に届けています。

The village lies in a mountainous valley which forms the source of both the Yoshinogawa and Kinokawa rivers. Mountain forests make up 95% of the land area. The natural gifts of water are delivered to downstream area as trees are grown in these upstream areas.
